Terms of Service
Last updated: 10 March 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Lantern, operated by Ancient Source (“we”, “us”, “our”). By accessing or using Lantern you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. What Lantern is
Lantern is an AI-powered wisdom companion that draws on classical Sufi texts — including works attributed to Rumi, Ibn Arabi, Al-Ghazali, Hafez, and others — to offer contemplative guidance on questions of the inner life.
Not clinical advice
Lantern is a contemplative tool, not a therapist, counsellor, psychologist, or medical practitioner. Nothing in Lantern constitutes medical, mental health, legal, or financial advice. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a qualified professional or emergency services immediately.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age to use Lantern. By using the service, you confirm you meet this requirement. Users under 18 should have parental or guardian consent. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13; if we discover such data, we will delete it immediately.
3. Accounts
You may use Lantern anonymously (up to 5 messages per day) or create a named account. When creating an account:
- You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure
- You must provide accurate information
- One person, one account — accounts are non-transferable
- You must notify us immediately of any unauthorised access
4. Subscriptions and billing
Paid subscriptions (Seeker and Sage tiers) are billed in advance on a monthly or annual cycle. All prices are in USD unless otherwise stated.
- Cancellation — you may cancel at any time via account settings. Access continues until the end of the current billing period. No partial refunds for unused time.
- Price changes — we will give at least 30 days’ notice of price increases. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
- Payment processor — payments are handled by Stripe. We do not store card details.
- Taxes — prices exclude applicable taxes (VAT, GST, etc.) which will be added at checkout based on your location.
Refunds are issued at our sole discretion. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us within 14 days at support@ancientsource.app.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Lantern for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms
- Attempt to circumvent usage limits or rate limiting
- Use automated tools to scrape, mirror, or excessively query the service
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the underlying AI models or prompts
- Impersonate another person or entity
- Use Lantern to generate harmful, abusive, or illegal content
- Share your account credentials with others
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, without prior notice for serious violations.
6. Intellectual property
The classical Sufi texts used by Lantern are in the public domain. Lantern’s interface, design, prompts, and software are the intellectual property of Ancient Source and protected by copyright law.
Content you generate through conversations with Lantern (your questions and Lantern’s responses to you) is provided for your personal use only. You may not use it for commercial purposes or claim it as your own original work. We do not claim ownership of your inputs.
7. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Lantern is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted availability.
AI-generated wisdom is not infallible. Lantern may make mistakes, produce inaccurate information, or fail to respond appropriately to sensitive situations. Always apply your own judgement.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ancient Source’s total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of Lantern shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £100 (whichever is greater).
8. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. For disputes, the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction provide otherwise (including EU and US consumer rights).
9. Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms at any time. Material changes will be notified by email at least 14 days in advance. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
